History suggests cricket was played in Canada as far back as the 18th century. An English schoolmaster named George Barber is credited with spreading the game there by helping found the Toronto Cricket Club in 1827. In 1844 Canada played USA in the first ever international match anywhere, held in New York. England toured Canada 15 years later, and Canada reciprocated with their first official tour in 1887, on which they beat Ireland, Derbyshire, Warwickshire and Leicestershire. Five years later, the Canadian Cricket Association was formed.
